I’m in the throes of several large new projects. It’s all very exciting and my phone and computer sizzle and buzz with urgent needs. Business is booming. And I’m happy. But it’s not exactly the same.

A decade ago, I didn’t do much different than what I do today — I make surf stuff with a keyboard and friends — but back then I did it shoulder to shoulder with a group of creatives the likes of which will never assemble quite like we did. I’m proud of every breath I took during that time and I know everyone involved feels the same. Our mark is out there. Referenced, remembered and revered. All more valuable than any currency.

I don’t know what triggered it today — I think I heard “The Big Ship” by Brian Eno and nearly shed a tear thinking about that opening sequence in Dear Suburbia,. I had the same feeling I had watching it for the first time before grabbing Kai and saying: “This is it.” The next 10 years of our lives were basically based around capturing that feeling in that film opening. We made mags, films, videos, interviews, events and memories. Kai had encapsulated everything we were about in that opening scene set to that mysterious and beautiful tune and the rest is literal history.

It only took me five minutes to find 12 songs just as impactful. Songs that could only be from that time. I could go on for days, but it’s Thursday and we all got things to do. So enjoy it. 12 Songs that have all the feels of another life. I hope it brings you back to wherever you were in that time and you feel just as warm and fuzzy as I do. Nothing further, enjoy the tunes.—Travis Ferré
