Childlike Behavior
New music, a playlist, a surf video and Dane's at it again. Plus a pit. All today!
I’ve been bouncing around the house like a jackrabbit all day. It all started last night when I tried to put the Lakers game on — something I haven’t done in two years. I needed to clear the computer cobwebs and sport in the evening can be nice for that. Turns out the game was blacked out on Peacock and I would need Spectrum because I live in LA County. I remember why I haven’t watched a Laker game in two years.
Then I found myself something to watch instead. A surf video of all things. And it turned out to be one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. I’ve since learned it was edited by Dane Reynolds himself and the trip to Chile featured is over 3 years old but no matter, it just came out this week. It’s part of Former’s brilliant new “Defective Units” series — a rollout of long-form trailers for their new full-length movie called Defect coming in June. I’m seriously inspired to buy trousers.
The irregular, funky lefts that Benny Howard and Craig Anderson navigate had me mesmerized, and Dane’s edit is noticeably well done. He has a gift. The soundtrack is also akin to when Dane used to just drop things on Marine Layer out of nowhere — like when he just posted the music video for Wild Nothing’s song “Chinatown” with no context or caption and we all watched and wondered how we lived before we heard the song and saw the video. Every song on the soundtrack has that effect.
I compiled the tunes and a few others we’ve been listening to around here into a new 12 Songs Playlist for you. Grab that below.
